Tony Baxter's Land Pavilion- Season 5: Episode 3

This week on WEDWay Radio, we are joined by D23's Michael Crawford of Progress City USA, to take look at one of EPCOT Center's most beloved Future World pavillion's, The Land. But, we aren't going to explore the current pavilion. Instead, we are going to discuss the first version of the The Land that was discarded once Kraft was announced as a sponsor.

This version told the story of the earth, from a different point of view. Designed by Tony Baxter, it was more of an ecological look at the earth, including the story of water.

The exterior of the pavilion was highlighted by different crystals, each representing a different of th earth. Visitors would encounter different attractions and original characters who told the story of The Land.

SEASON 5 DEBUTS!!!! The Love Bug - Show notes for S5:01

On the debut episode under our new "season" format we examine one of our favorite Disney live action films, 1969's The Love Bug.

The Love Bug is one of the iconic 1960's family favorite Disney films. There is a lot to like about this films and we spend more than an hour breaking down what makes this film so special, including:

Bringing the film to the big screen

Bill Walsh and Don DaGradi wrote the scrteenplay. Theyu had written previos screenplays for Disney (among other roles within the company). They are probably best known for their Academy Award nominated screenplay for Mary Poppins.

Director Robert Stevenson was another name associated with Disney films throughout the 1950's, 60's and 70's. He also directed Mary Poppins.

Walt Disney was another key figure in the films production. The Love Bug was the last film personally approved by Walt. The idea stemmed from the Gordon Buford novel Car, Boy, Girl and Walt presented the idea after a meeting with Dean Jones who pitched a movie based on the first sports car brought to America.

The Characters

Jim Douglas - Played by Disney star Dean Jones, Jim is the main human chacter who is a down on his luck race car driver who is given a second career after obtaining Herbie

Herbie - The real star of the film is a 1963 Volkswagen Beetle.

Carol - Played by Michelle Lee is the love interest, but knows her way around a race car.

Thorndike - Played by David Tomlinson is the foil to Jim's success. This British dealership and motorsports owner will stop at nothing to defeat Herbie

This is WEDWay Radio episode #145 - The Mickey Mouse Revue. On this show we take a look at a classic Walt Disney World attraction, taking you back to the 1970's to examine The Mickey Mouse Revue. This attraction was unique in that it was the only original attraction in Walt Disney World's Fantasyland when WDW opened in 1971.

We take a look at Fantasyland as it existed in 1971 and how it was made with a different focus than Disneyland. We also examine the attraction from the preshow through the end, and the different characters that are featured within the show. We also discuss what came after the Mickey Mouse Revue and the different attractions that occupied the Fantasyland Theater.
