You Can't Reason With A Headless Man - Show Notes for Episode 92

On this episode of WEDWay Radio we are proud to take a look at one of our favorite animated features the 1949 film Ichabod and Mr. Toad, and instead of looking at the entire feature we are going to look at the second half of the film: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.  This is such a fantastic feature and some of the things that we look at in examining this are:

  • Animation in the 40's and how this feature ended the "package films" of the 1940's where features were divided up into several subjects or a mix of live action and animated sequences.
  • Washington Irving and the story of Sleepy Hollow.  The first great American author who was internationally acclaimed and how this story was actually part of a larger set of works, including Rip Van Winkle while also creating a history for an area that was not very rich in culture.
  • The art and animation of the film that stood including the work of Frank Thomas, Woolie Reitherman, John Lounesbury and Mary Blair
  • The great music of the film including the narration by Bing Crosby.
  • Where we can find Sleepy Hollow refernces in the parks.

Our fiend Jeff Pepper has a great article on the music of Ichabod.

Get into the Halloween spirit with this show. Enjoy!

We Can Do This!

Thank you AGAIN for being such a great listener to the show.  Over the past two and a half years Matt and I have recorded 92 different episodes of WEDWay Radio.  We've worked hard to plan, research, record and edit each show; and we hope for that hour we have given you an escape from your long commute, your run, your mow or your workday.  We know that we couldn’t have done it without each person who listens to our show.  You really keep us motivated to come up with engaging topics.  Believe me, going to work every Thursday on five hours of sleep is difficult, but I know that we have set a standard and try to surpass your expectations for a Disney based podcast.

A month ago when the Peoples Choice Podcast nominations opened we asked you to consider nominating us for Best Travel Podcast and on Saturday October 8th when the nominees were announced we thrilled to see WEDWay Radio on the list.

Now, we need even more support.  We can do this, but it'll take everyones help.  Voting begins on Wednesday Oct 12 and goes through Oct 27th.  You can vote EVERY DAY, which means we are going to need a lot of support to do this.  But....it can be done.  So get out there and vote.

Go to http://www.podcastawards.com

Scroll down to Travel where WEDWay Radio is listed and please consider voting for us.

I can’t thank you enough for your support. I hope you’ll take the time to vote for WEDWay. It would sure mean a lot to us.

Thanks,

Nate and Matt
